On Gratitude and What Matters to Me
Social media is reaching new heights with its influx of content right now. With few ways to connect to others, people are taking to the Internet to share what their new reality looks like.
It must be something about being trapped in our own homes that makes us reminisce on what a typical day in our lives was like pre-pandemic. Among the many story challenges, bingo templates and pushups are moments people are sharing because it means something to them - their virtual happy hour, old photos from a more exciting time, etc.
It’s almost as if this worldwide pressing-of-the-pause-button has given us the opportunity to appreciate what we do have. It’s so easy to complain about the day-to-day activity of our normally busy lives, but when it’s all stripped away, and we have nothing but time left on our hands… what are we grateful for? What means the most to us?
Truly, the things that mean the most to me probably don’t mean much to you. Yesterday, Luke Combs released his music video for a single off his most recent album. The song is titled “Does To Me”. The video is a compilation of photos and moments from people’s lives - moments that might not mean much to anyone else but they do to those people.
The video was so well put together, and it got me thinking - each of these moments is an opportunity to recognize our gratitude toward these little things. It might not mean much to you, but it does to me.
And because I love sharing photos more than most other things in this world, I wanted to share the things that might not mean much to you, but they do to me.
My little guy, Bodie, our daily walks and visits to the dog park
My family and our weekly dinners
My friends and the back-to-back weekends we got to have in Dallas and OKC right before the world shut down
Speaking of that weekend in OKC - my momma and our weekend to see Jason Aldean in Oklahoma (and that concert and those hotel robes and that hotel brunch…)
…and speaking of concerts and music, this album and everything else by Morgan Wallen
My friends who I don’t get to see often but I love and miss dearly :’)
When we strip it all down, all the good parts of our lives are made up of the little things. That’s the one detail these all have in common - all of these people have little moments and memories attached to them to become what they are to me today.
I’ve loved “Does To Me” by Luke Combs for a while, but it took me seeing this video to realize that we all have things that matter to us but not others. These photos and moments and people might not mean much to you, but they do to me.
